CABLES COMPLETELY UNDER CONTROL: The handling and automatic assembly of wires, cables and connectors is technically demanding and highly complex: large tolerances must be compensated, high quality requirements must be met and a large number of variants must be flexibly supported.
That is why the assembly of cables or the wire harnesses production is still manual work in many companies. No matter whether in the automotive industry or in the white goods sector. Only individual intermediate steps, such as cutting the cables to size, have been automated up to now. Pre-assembly and final assembly are then mostly done manually.

For cost reasons, however, production is often outsourced to low-wage countries. Given the current geopolitical events, this entails high risks for manufacturing companies. And at the same time, automation pressure is growing, especially in the automotive sector. This is because OEMs demand continuous quality assurance, documentation of production processes and traceability from their automotive suppliers. Automation and digitalization could solve the problem, and at the same time must not lead to cost increases.
Robots can be used flexibly, but they inherently lack hand-eye coordination. Therefore, locating and gripping of elastic cables that can twist in any direction is difficult for robots. But in combination with appropriate sensor technology, robots become the ideal solution and play a key role in mastering the handling of flexible and bendable cables and components while enabling the automation of processes such as wiring harness production and assembly in a way that is both flexible and economically profitable.
